MediaTek’s ARM-based processors are often found in entry-level Chromebooks. But the company is taking aim at the premium Chromebook Plus platform with a new chip for high-performance laptops.
The MediaTek Kompanio Ultra 910 is the first chip in the new Kompanio Ultra family, and it features 8 high-performance CPU cores, Immortalis-G925MC 11 graphics with support for up to two 4K displays, and and NPU that delivers up to 50 TOPS of AI performance. There’s also built-in support for WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0.
While MediaTek is announcing this processor as a chip for premium Chromebooks, it’s interesting to note that the only reason it doesn’t meet Microsoft’s minimum system requirements for a Copilot+ PC is because Microsoft hasn’t officially approved this chip. But it exceeds NPU requirement and appears to have a CPU that should be at least somewhat competitive with entry-level Qualcomm Snapdragon X chips.
So if and when Microsoft expands its Windows on ARM platform to support non-Qualcomm processors the Kompanio Ultra 910 (or something like it) could be a likely candidate for MediaTek’s first Windows PC chip.
